"The man who surgically repaired Mike Jenkins' right shoulder in January told the Cowboys cornerback he wasn't ready to resume contact in practice, a source said. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, whom Jenkins visited Monday in Florida to be evaluated, didn't give the fifth-year veteran the go-ahead.

Consequently, Jenkins, whose progress will be assessed week to week, is expected to continue his conditioning and rehabilitation work. The Cowboys are hopeful he will be ready to play by the end of the preseason. When he does return, Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said he wouldn't be opposed to deploying Jenkins at safety."
